Acute Stress
Acute stress is your body’s response to a short-term demand or change and occurs in no less than three days and no more than four weeks. This type of stress is caused by events such as being in a dangerous situation that could cause harm, receiving bad news, getting into an argument with a loved one, or stress and burnout from work.
Examples of Symptoms
Physical symptoms include: Tightened muscles, increased heart rate, chest pain or discomfort, trembling or shakiness.
Emotional symptoms include: Anxiousness, restlessness, feelings of fear or panic, difficulty focusing.
Treatments
Relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises, meditation, journaling, yoga, and going on walks in nature are all examples of effective treatments for acute stress.
In addition to relaxation techniques, there are several types of therapies and professional help available. Consult with your physician about treatment options that are right for you.
